Secure Testing over The Internet

Testing Across Town or Across the World

Ever since testing began, one of the hardest questions to answer has been "How can I get my tests to the examinees in a timely and cost-effective manner?"  In 1997 a major US pharmaceutical company was faced with the daunting task of delivering certification tests to thousands of employees scattered across the globe.  The Examiner Corporation had the perfect test tool, but how to make the tests available?  Citrix was the solution.  The combination of Examiner's sophisticated exam environment, a corporate intranet, and the Citrix thin-client platform made an unbeatable combination.

What's So Special About Citrix-hosted Testing?

In a word: Security!   Most internet-based testing software relies on "traditional" HTML code to send test items to the browser. More often than not, this can leave copies of the test items in the examinee's temporary internet folder. A test is hardly secure when it leaves parts of itself on a user's machine.  With The Examiner's Citrix-hosted testing nothing is left on the examinee's machine!  With DES-level encryption and multiple passwords, testing with The Examiner is safe.

Platform Independence

With very few exceptions, if the examinee's computer can support the Citrix control, The Examiner can deliver tests.  What's more, the same suite of tools that is used to develop Examiner tests on your local machine can be used to develop tests for the internet.  You don't have to learn two sets of skills: one for "traditional" delivery, and one for the internet. Once you have learned how to use The Examiner on your local machine, you are ready for internet testing.

Try it out!

Click the button to visit the Exam Vault, The Examiner's gateway to secure Internet testing.  When you arrive, your computer will be examined to see if has the necessary Citrix Active-X control installed.  If the control isn't present, you'll see a message in the lower-right corner of the screen asking if you want to download the control.  If you want to see the demonstration, click on the link and install the control.

At the login prompts, login as user "demo" with the password of "demo".

After a short pause, you'll be taken to a screen where you can view a test administration demonstration.  The administration software is available in both English and Spanish.  Click on the language of your choice.  After another pause, the test will begin.

Having Trouble Connecting?

Many organizations use a firewall to protect their network from intrusions.  However, the firewall can sometimes block the Citrix connection from operating.  The Citrix Corporation has provided a web page that discusses the issues between their thin-client system and firewalls.  To read the article, click here.
